Defence sector

Poland’s defence industry is growing thanks to modern technologies, international cooperation and entrepreneurial creativity.

One of Poland’s chief export sectors is for UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or drones). Poland’s legal environment has enabled this sector to develop and create trend-setting technologies. The DroneRadar application is merely one such example. It helps unmanned systems fly through the air collision-free and is facilitating the move towards U-Space, a drone-only area. It received an award from Belgium’s Minister of National Defence in 2017, winning the DroneHero category.

The international defence market is growing and expanding. Poland’s defence and armaments sectors are increasingly operating at an international level, with Polish entrepreneurs being increasingly involved in military equipment projects and R&D projects.

The need to transfer technologies and to conduct joint research means that Polish companies and universities are concluding agreements with the largest European and global enterprises. Many examples exist of Polish intellectual capital being involved in leading R&D projects.

SSW has considerable experience in supporting and advising companies within the defence and armaments industries. We also organise defence-related events to ensure that we keep fully up-to-date on business and legal trends in this fast-moving area.

SSW co-organises the prestigious Global Drone Conference together with Targi Kielce (TK). TK hosts the annual International Armaments Industry Exhibition, which is the third largest such exhibition in Europe. We advise clients from the drones industry on matters including energy, construction, geodetics and project financing. We were the first to discuss the use of anti-drone systems in the insurance industry.

How we can help?

We help investors enter the Polish market and navigate their way through the applicable law and business/tax problems. Amongst the many aspects of our support, we advise on various aspects of public procurement that impact on the defence industry. We also implement commercial restructurings, help clients to register and enforce their intellectual property rights, ensure compliance with data protection rules and provide any other aspects of corporate, legal or tax advice that our clients require.
