Marek specialises in compliance and regulatory matters, with a focus on financial markets, banking and insurance laws. Prior to joining SSW, he worked for many years in the state-owned State Bank Kredytowy (later Powszechny Bank Kredytowy, Bank Przemysłowo-Handlowy). He also served as Director of the Legal Department at the state-controlled Bank Ochrony Środowiska, at the same time serving on the supervisory board of the bank’s brokerage house, DM BOŚ .
He has unique experience gained while working for the Polish financial supervisory authorities. He was the deputy director of the Legal and Licensing Department at the Office for the Supervision of Insurance and Pension Funds and, later, director of the legal and regulatory department of the Office of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority.
At the Office of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, he advised on matters relating to, among others, changes in bank statutes and bank mergers. He was also responsible for supervising proceedings to impose sanctions on financial entities and AML compliance inspections.
He represented the Polish Financial Supervision Authority in the legislative work of the standing committee of the Council of Ministers and in the course of work in parliamentary committees. In particular, Marek participated in the implementation of the provisions of the PSD directive in Poland. Marek also took active part in the work on the Act on the Financial Stability Committee. After the establishment of the Financial Stability Committee, he participated in its meetings as representative of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority.
