Last week an extraordinary event took place in Warsaw’s post-industrial Elektrownia Powiśle.
Games Industry Law Summit on Tour was the first in the Unpacked series of events of the Interactive Entertainment industry legal community. It was a three-day conference where games industry experts from all over the world gathered and discussed emerging issues related to this creative business.
SSW was one of the official partners of the Summit and Jakub Kubalski, dr Szymon Okoń and Lukasz Karpiesiuk represented us during the meeting.
235 participants from 31 countries took part in the event. They represented mainly law firms but also various companies as in-house lawyers. Attendees listened to 15 presentations with 45 speakers which resulted in 14,5 hours of a professional content.
The panellists, speakers and the audience during three days of the conference debated on such topics as drafting and litigation on the basis of unclear language in the contract; relations with Warsaw Stock Exchange; consumer protection; privacy in the USA; protection of minors; competition law; advertising; music in games; and issues of open sources in games.
Attendees were eager to discover the intricacies of devpub agreement disputes around various pricing arrangements, use of third-party trademarks, IP issues of AI use and the role of compliance with GDPR and IP acquisition standards in M&A transactions. Late-night conversations often validated the relevance of the items talked about during the panels. In the end, this was a great time for the Interactive Entertainment industry legal community to get together in one of the world’s gaming capitals – Warsaw.
We hope to see more in the nearest future!
