SSW advised Aion Bank on its entry into the Polish market

Aion Bank is a full-service digital bank founded in Belgium. In Poland, Aion Bank offers digital banking services, available via a mobile app. The process of opening an account is conducted online, without printed documents and in-person visits in the bank’s branch.

SSW’s Banking and Finance team (Szymon Okoń, Tomasz Kwaśniewski, Marek Wędrychowski and Witold Oszczanowski) advised Aion Bank on establishing its presence in Poland. SSW also helped Aion to create standardised documents for products.

Katarzyna Szczudlik (Data Privacy team) was responsible for ensuring the compliance of all of Aion’s processes and procedures with Polish law. Our team also advised on, among others, the use of biometric data, designing a mobile application and UX.

SSW’s lawyers (Jakub Jędrzejewski, Joanna Kanicka) also advised on Poland’s consumer protection law and adapting Aion’s existing procedures to local regulations.

In turn, the tax team (Łukasz Karpiesiuk, Rafał Łapiński) advised on the VAT treatment of cross-border financial services related to the launch of the bank.
